Party’s Over
When time permits collaborating on with others in the creative industry can be a lot of fun. That’s what Seattle based photographer John Keatley did. We had a concept of “when the party’s over”. When styling a party-themed fashion shoot, the goal is to create a vibrant and fun atmosphere that captures the essence of celebration. Here are is how I narrowed down the wardrobe to style this type of shoot.
Set the mood:
I considered what type of party we wanted to portray. Is it a glam cocktail party, a retro disco, or a bohemian outdoor gathering? Establishing the mood will help guide your choices for outfits and accessories. All of which was kind of all over the place. I did use a lot of party dresses, though
Choose a color Scheme:
Opt for bright and bold colors that evoke a sense of celebration. In all honestly, it was all over the place and I wanted a certain color scheme which is why you see a lot if pink tones on the rack.
Embrace playful silhouettes:
Experiment with fun and playful silhouettes that reflect the festive spirit. Consider using flirty dresses, statement tops, jumpsuits, or skirt and top combinations that exude energy and movement.
Mix textures and patterns:
Play around with different textures and patterns to create visual interest. Consider incorporating sequins, lace, fringe, or velvet for a touch of glamour. Mixing patterns like stripes, polka dots, or floral prints can add a playful and dynamic element to the outfits.
Don't forget about accessories:
Accessories play a key role in a party-themed shoot. Opt for statement jewelry, such as oversized earrings or chunky bracelets. Hats, headbands, and hair accessories can also add a festive touch. Don't be afraid to mix and match different accessories to create a bold and unique look.
Consider different party themes:
If you want to showcase various party themes throughout the shoot, create different looks for each theme. For example, a disco theme may feature flashy sequined outfits, while a tropical-themed party may call for colorful prints and flowy dresses.
Pay attention to hair and makeup:
Hairstyles and makeup should complement the overall party theme. Bold makeup with glitter, bright eyeshadows, and vibrant lip colors can enhance the festive vibe. Experiment with different hairstyles like updos, beach wave curls, etc. Jamyrlyn Mallory was the makeup artist on this photo shoot and she is also based in Seattle, WA.
Remember, the goal is to create a sense of excitement and celebration through the outfits and styling choices. I had fun with the shoot and next time I would introduce more color and contrasting designs.
